Packing and Labeling
It seems simple, right? You put all your stuff in boxes and then fold the four flaps in, call it a day. Well… it isn’t that simple. Here are a few things we recommend doing when you’re beginning your packing day.
1. It is important to have markers, packing tape, and ideally, color-coded stickers on hand. The color-coded system helps to identify what room the items go in so when you’re moving the new items into your new home, you can refer to the colors quicker.
2. As you begin packing your items, make sure you are labeling your boxes clearly and with thick marker. Room Name, Contents, and if they are FRAGILE are highly encouraged to be labeled on each box. Have colors dedicated to each room. For example, the kitchen may be green, and all boxes are labeled with “Kitchen – Pots and Pans.”
3. Create an inventory list as you go. Keep track of how many boxes you have in each room so that when times comes to unload, you know between the color coding and your inventory exactly where they need to be unpacked. Number your boxes as you go.
4. Pack room by room. Make sure you are taping your boxes off and labeling them immediately, so you don’t get confused on what was in a box you already packed.
These are a few simple items that can help you to smoothly pack up your house and get ready to move out!
