Congratulations! You’re moving! But now you’ve run into a new problem; you’re not sure how to make the experience stress-free for your pets. We love our furry little pals and moving can be just as stressful for them as it might be for us.
Here are some great ways to ensure a smooth transition from home to home with pets in tow!
Visit Your Vet Before Hand
If you’re moving to a new area and will need a new veterinarian, it’s a good idea to get in contact with your current vet before moving. This way you’ll have all medications and records with you so the transition to your new vet is easy. Use the checkup to make sure your pet is ready to move!
Keep Your Pet Away From the Action
Moving out means open doors while transporting your items outside. The best way to keep your pet safe is by setting them up in a secluded area. Make sure to equip them with food, water, and their favorite toy. Try to keep your regular schedule of letting them out to walk or use the restroom so they feel the same normalcy of their daily routine.
Reacquaint Your Pet with Their Crate
It might be a good idea to get them familiar with their crates again if they haven’t visited them in a while. Positive ways to do this would be to play with them and give treats when they come out of the crate. Putting your pets’ food inside the crate also gives them a positive association.
Slowly Allowing Your Pet to Adjust to the New Home
Ready to get on the road? Make sure you have everything you need! Arriving at your new home is exciting. It might be overwhelming for your pet, however. Letting them slowly explore one room at a time until they’re comfortable then showing more and more. Make sure to establish a spot for them where they feel comfortable with their bed, toys, food, and so on. Give yourself a break and hang out and play with them. This might help relieve stress for both of you!
These are just a few ways to make the transition seamless for you and your pet. You know your animal better than anyone. The main thing you can do for them is giving lots of love and patience as you enter your new chapter!
